Unmanned Aircraft System
City of Long Beach

An Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), commonly referred to as a drone, is a small aircraft operated remotely without an onboard pilot. The City of Long Beach may deploy UAS technology across departments to support a broad range of public services, including public safety and emergency response, infrastructure and asset inspection, environmental and hazard monitoring, special events and public programming, and data collection in support of City planning and operations.

All City UAS deployments are governed by the City's Proposed Use Policy (PUP) for Drone/UAS technology, which serves as the shared governance floor establishing minimum standards for data handling, privacy protections, and appropriate use across all City departments.
